Ashorne Hill is delighted to have been awarded the gold certification from Green Tourism this week, following a personal visit and assessment by the renowned sustainable tourism certification programme.

Here at Ashorne Hill we are aware of the negative impacts in which the day-to-day running of a large conference business can have on the environment, and have been consistently and progressively working towards reducing this impact. We have an on-site ‘Green Team’ who have worked across all areas of the business, developing and carrying out initiatives to help us tread softly on the planet. These include a variety of measures from electric vehicle charging points and bottling our own water; reusing or recycling 100% of waste so nothing goes to landfill; using environmentally sound suppliers and sourcing locally where possible; supporting local communities through charitable activities and even bagging up used coffee grounds for guests to take home for compost.

Green Tourism is considered one of the most rigorous certification programmes of its kind, and was set up over 20 years ago as a not-for profit organisation to encourage and enable people make sustainable choices that reduce their impact on the planet.

Following the inspection and confirmation of the award, Managing Director of Ashorne Hill, John Carson commented “ We are so proud of this achievement for Ashorne Hill. Not only for the tremendous effort all of our team have put into this, but for the sustainability of our future. We all have a responsibility to look after our environment, and for us that means taking care of our local community and surroundings as well as our staff and customers. Well done to all involved – it’s a long term commitment and we continue to keep making small changes to make a bigger difference.”
